It’s easy for a relationship to feel stale when you do the same things over and over again. It’s understandable that when couples are busy, they can get into a routine. It can be comfortable, but it’s definitely not exciting. And, it can be a romance killer. Before you know it, you and your partner start to feel more like business partners or roommates than lovers.
Novelty breeds excitement and fun in relationships.
When I work with couples, I often assign them the homework of going on date nights. My one stipulation is that they go to new places that they have not been to before. Novelty breeds excitement and fun. Going to the same old place for dinner every week just doesn’t light the spark for most of us.
I often recommend that each member of the couple keep an ongoing list of things they would like to try and do in the city. The couples share their list and take turns going to places on each other’s lists. It is helpful for your partner not to have to guess what you might enjoy. Be explicit about what is fun for you.
